I got to experience Abu Dhabi, for the first time back in 2016 when I visited my brother who was living there at the time. Having spent a good one month in Abu Dhabi made me feel completely at home and made me fall in love with the city and that says a lot! Don’t get me wrong…Dubai is absolutely wonderful too (heck…I dedicated the last few weeks posting content exclusively featuring Dubai and it’s popular tourist destinations here, here and here!).
However, Abu Dhabi is wonderful and awe-inspiring in its own way. It has a different charm. It’s quieter, more peaceful, greener also and more traditional as compared to its cosmopolitan counterpart, Dubai. Being a Pakistani, I would compare Dubai with Karachi and Abu Dhabi with Islamabad. There! You now have a perfectly clear idea about what I’m talking about, right?
On that note, I’m getting some serious parallels between Islamabad and Abu Dhabi in my head right now. I can list down four at the top of my head right now. See…both Islamabad and Abu Dhabi are capital cities. Both have iconic mosques aka Islamabad’s Faisal Mosque and Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Mosque. Both have a traditional rice dish that everyone seems to rave about aka Islamabad’s Savour Pulao and Abu Dhabi’s Mandi. And most of all, both cities seem to have this air of calm and tranquillity that I truly enjoy and cherish.

I’ve appreciated Etihad Airways efforts towards different causes in the past, namely the fact that Etihad Airways is the official sponsor for Pakistan Special Olympics fund-raiser gala dinner for the seventh consecutive year. The airline is also the exclusive official airline for the upcoming Special Olympics World Summer Games 2019, being held in Abu Dhabi. And the following clip not only gives a background about the Year of Zayed but also elaborates on Etihad Airways current plans for humanitarian aid:
The year 2018 marks 100 years since the birth of the late founding father of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Therefore, the year 2018 has been declared as the ‘Year of Zayed’ to highlight the achievements of the late leader. To honour UAE’s founding father and his core values Etihad Aviation Group will carry out humanitarian works through its cargo flight Boeing 777, delivering relief aid across the world.
To commemorate the ‘Year of Zayed’ Abu Dhabi Experience and Zayed A380 welcome almost 1.000 invitees from around the world to experience Abu Dhabi and learn about its founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Whereas, all passengers flying on the special edition A380 aircraft this summer will celebrate the ‘Year of Zayed’ in the sky with fun activities and an exclusive in-flight experience.
