I compiled a list of famous food places in Dubai in Dubai Food Faves Part 1. That was compiled based on recommendations by friends, family and foodies on different food groups online. This part, however, consists of food places we’ve tried on our own and this review will be helpful if you’re travelling to Dubai and want to know what to try and what not to try! So without further ado…let’s jump right into it!
I’ve loved Mrs. Vanellis ever since my brother and sister in law introduced me to it in Bahrain years ago! Specializing in Italian cuisine, they serve pasta, pizza and basically all the good stuff in life and prepare food then and there in front of your eyes so it’s a lot of fun watching them prepare meals. You also have the option to customize your meal, so if you don’t want mushrooms in your pasta but lots of olives and broccoli with the seasoning of your choice, go ahead and knock yourself out! ^_^
I ordered pasta and customized it according to my liking, while Saad ordered pizza and they were both served piping hot. The only downside was the fact that I found the starters a little too oily but the rest of the food was absolutely delicious and I would love to have it again.
Bon Appetizers and Vampire Repellent? Whoever’s doing their copywriting is not only having fun with it but also doing an awesome job, I must say! ^_^
This wasn’t the first time I tried Chili’s but this was definitely the first time I had a bad experience there and it was unfortunate because it was my first time there with Saad and we went in on my recommendation. I’m not saying it was horrible but for the hefty price, we were definitely expecting a better service.
A) There was a language barrier as the person serving us had difficulty communicating with us in English. I found this really strange because even at a local restaurant like Bait ul Mandi, we had no problems conversing with the people serving us and we expected nothing else from an international food chain.
B) The steak I wanted to order had mushrooms and since I’m allergic to them I decided I’ll change my order but the waiter said that the steak can be prepared without mushrooms. To be on the safe side, I repeatedly told the person serving us to not add mushrooms to my steak as I’m allergic to them and guess what? I still got mushrooms on my steak. My plate was taken back and the mushrooms were removed leaving me at risk of getting a reaction.
C) We both asked for a well-done steak, not medium and definitely not rare. However, my steak was undercooked in a few places and that just made me lose my appetite.
I don’t think I’ll ever go back to Chili’s, not for their steaks at least. I’ve had other things from their menu in the past and had a really good experience but this experience has really put me off.
We tried Shake Shack at Dubai Mall and aw man…how do I describe this place? Let me try by saying that Shake Shack served us with the BEST. BURGERS. EVER! I had heard so much about Shake Shack but never got a chance to try it and I’m SO glad we tried it this time.
At a glance, we thought the burgers were pretty small (compared to what we get here in Pakistan at least) but with the fries and shake, it was just the right size. The burger was juicy, perfectly cooked with the right amount of sauces and fillings. The fries were perfect; golden and crispy with the right amount of seasoning. The shake was absolutely delicious as well.
mMm…mm…I can’t wait to try Shake Shack again and I would definitely recommend you to try it out!
Unfortunately, we’ve lost the photos we took of our burgers at Shake Shack so here’s one that looks closest to what we had.
The Cheesecake Factory
If Shake Shack serves the best burgers ever then The Cheesecake Factory serves the BEST. CHEESECAKES. EVER! Dear Cheesecake Factory. Please come to Pakistan and serve us your delectable Cheesecakes, Pakistanis are foodies and we won’t disappoint you with our eating skills. Kthanksbye!
We grabbed their classic cheesecake from Dubai Mall on our way back to our hotel and we couldn’t wait to devour it so had it in the cab. It was so good! Highly highly recommended!
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Yes I can give it ten stars because…well why not? and because it is THAT good!)
On our last day in Dubai, Saad and I decided to try two different places for lunch for the purpose of this review and because…well…there are so many food places to try and such little time. I decided to try Texas Chicken. I was confused between their burger and chicken but I decided to go ahead with their chicken because I thought who can top Shake Shack when it comes to burgers? I tried their Spicy Chicken and although it was well cooked, I found it to be a little bland for my desi taste buds. The sauce that came along with it was really good as well as the fries. However, it’s not something I particularly miss from Dubai because we get fried chicken which is way better here in Pakistan.
I didn’t take photos of my meal because we were in a rush and had to catch our flight so here’s one that looks closest to what I had. All other photos are my own! ^_^
