“I hate sales!”, said no one ever, right? I got the perfect opportunity in Dubai to try some new products by OGX as they were on sale because if you’ve read my previous review of OGX Argan Oil of Morocco, you know that I love that product! As always, I wanted to test these products out first for a couple of weeks before sharing the review and I’ve done that and more (emptied the bottles and now wondering how to recycle them (any leads Karachites?) Anyhoo…without further ado…let’s jump right into it.

About my hair:
If you’ve read my previous reviews, then you would already know my hair type so please skip this part and if you’re new then hello! please do go through this and I hope you enjoy your stay! ^_^
First, a little bit about my hair…they are not treated, not dyed, bleached, or gotten any other treatments like extenso/keratin/etc. so they’re in their most natural state at this point. I’m also a hijabi which means that I wear a headscarf which also means that my hair can become dry and frizzy and somewhat damaged due to friction (wearing cotton/breathable scarves more often should help *note to self* ^_^). I wash my hair about 2/3 times a week, sometimes more. I’m pretty low maintenance (read lazy) when it comes to taking care of my hair, which is why I prefer investing in products that you leave in your hair and forget about while they do their magic.
I bought the Vitamin E range by OGX during the winter season and used it during the same time keeping in mind that although my hair tends to be oily during summer days, in winters it gets super dry and dull. Having read the description, I figured this will take care of the dryness and dullness that comes with the winter season.
Unfortunately, this range did not work for me at all. I felt like it made my hair super oily even on the second day after the hair wash. I’m not saying that this is a bad product, I’m just saying that it did not work for my hair type. Keeping in mind that this wasn’t a one-off situation, I’ve used these products over a period of several weeks. So I wouldn’t recommend this product for people with oily hair type. I think this would work really well for people who have dry scalp/hair throughout the year.
I got the full size of OGX Vitamin E shampoo and penetrating oil and a small sample sized conditioner which still lasted way after I ran out of the shampoo. What’s up with that? Am I the only who’s always left with conditioner, despite using both shampoo and conditioner at the same time? I do use conditioner only on the lower half of my hair, steering away from the scalp because that tends to make my hair oily.
It seems like the OGX Vitamin E Penetrating Oil will last me a lifetime, I mean I’ve only managed to use 1/8th of the entire bottle despite using it regularly after a hair wash since the last several months (I’m not complaining since the oils a bit expensive so it’s good value for money, however, please do choose the range carefully according to your hair type).
The oil is quite thick and I use it by taking 5-rupee coin size (or dime size if you’re more familiar with that) in my palm, rub it in my hands and apply the oil to the lengths of my freshly washed, damp hair, avoiding the scalp again because that would make it oily. The oil absorbs completely so you’re not left with a grease ball for hair.
Again, just like OGX Argan Oil of Morocco that I’ve reviewed previously, the fragrance is quite strong and very perfume-like and might not be suitable for people who are sensitive to strong fragrances. However, do keep in mind that the smell does not linger and goes away after some time.
- Good value for money (lasts a long time, quantity and expiry wise – 18 months)
- Doesn’t contain animal derived ingredients and isn’t tested on animals
- Their products have a strong perfume-y fragrance
- OGX products are not easily available in Pakistan
- Even if they are available locally, they’re a bit pricey.
Will I recommend this product to a friend?
I’ve used OGX products before and loved them, however, I will not recommend the Vitamin E Range by OGX to people with oily hair. If you wish to try products by OGX, check out their website to see which range works best for your hair type and of course read reviews! That’s a mistake I made because I had limited internet connection and not a lot of time to make an informed decision. I’m interested in trying out other products by OGX. If your hair type is similar to mine and you have any recommendations, please do leave them in the comments below!
Where is it available?:
I bought these from Dubai and they’re easily available there but if you’re based in Pakistan and interested in trying out products by OGX, you may order them online from various Facebook pages that sell beauty products. I’ve also seen them in some stores in Karachi such as Agha’s, EBCO, Naheed, Ami’s, etc.
I hope you found this review helpful. What’s your favourite shampoo? Do let me know in the comments below. Also feel free to share any queries, comments or suggestions regarding this post or my blog in the comments! Thanks for reading! ^_^
